This research explores how biofeedback and mindfulness can optimize performance in high-risk environments — and you’ll receive free access to an evidence-based mental training intervention.

"A BIOMARKER-BASED INVESTIGATION OF THE MINDFUL SPORT PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT PROTOCOL VS HEART RATE VARIABILITY BIOFEEDBACK TO REDUCE ANXIETY, IMPROVE ATTENTION, INCREASE FLOW STATE, IMPROVE STRESS-RECOVERY, AND ENHANCE PERFORMANCE IN HIGH-RISK SPORT (BIG WAVE SURFING)"

Are You a Big Wave Surfer Ready to Push Your Mental Wedge?

Join a groundbreaking 8-week study comparing two elite-level mental training protocols:

Heart Rate Variability Biofeedback Protocol (HRV BFB)

Vs

Mindful Sport Performance Enhancement Protocol (MSPE)

Previous studies have shown that both interventions can help athletes improve parameters related to better athletic performance, such as emotional self-regulation, attention control, and anxiety. Athletes also recovered faster from physical stress.

The study will take eight weeks, and athletes will have to commit to;

  • Surf big waves while wearing a heart rate monitor
  • Allow your performance to be video recorded
  • Be randomly assigned to one of the two mental training groups: HRV Biofeedback or Mindful Sport Performance Enhancement. Or the control group
  • Attend one 50-minute session per week for 6 weeks
  • Practice your mental training homework: 30 minutes daily, five times a week.
  • Surf again - monitored and recorded

Is there any compensation for participating?

No, there is no compensation for participating in this study. However, you will receive;
 A free, science-based mental training protocol used to enhance athletic performance
  • A chance to contribute to groundbreaking research in sport psychology and sport psychophysiology
  • The opportunity to optimize your performance under pressure
  • A $25 gift card after each mental training session to help you cover the cost of driving to the office

Andrea first drafted her research back in 2016 during a sport psychology internship with the American Board of Sport Psychology in New York, where she was introduced to physiological recording during real-time performance and biofeedback. From that date to the present, Andrea has dedicated nine years of intense study to exploring psychophysiological approaches to optimizing sports performance.
